CJA Support

The CJA provides for the appointment of a Federal Defender or private attorney compensated under the CJA Plan to represent indigent defendants. The Criminal Justice Act Panel Selection Committee for the United States District Court of Delaware meets every September to consider the recommendation of attorneys to fill any vacancies on the CJA Panel.

As a CJA Panel Attorney, you are entitled to use Defender Services' training benefits and resources. Additionally, the Federal Defender's Office for the District of Delaware provides on-going training, office space and research support for CJA Panel attorneys. Criminal Defense Manual, 2000 Edition
Adapting and revising a project prepared by the Federal Community Defender Office for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, the Federal Public Defender's Office for the District of New Jersey published and distributed the first edition of the Criminal Defense Manual for the District of New Jersey in 1998. The 2000 edition replaces and revises that edition. The Criminal Defense Manual reflects the Office's objective to offer guidance, education, and support to the CJA Panel attorneys appointed to represent the indigent criminal defendants.

Panel Attorney Representatives

Each Federal judicial district appoints a CJA panel attorney representative. As the representative of all CJA panel attorneys in the District of Delaware, they serve as liaison between panel members and other components of the judicial branch, including the Federal Public Defender, Administrative Office of the United States Courts and the courts.
